Last night Wendy and I, along with some friends, went to see the Campbell University Men's Basketball team play NC State. It seems that Campbell is having a good year. Well, they were for awhile. I think they have dropped four straight, but won their first eight games. It used to be that Campbell was known to not score well and lose badly. They did alright against the Wolfpack last night.
I have a few observations. First, I enjoyed the free parking. The game was at Reynolds. I have never been there. It was a packed house. An announcement was made that the game was a sell out. I saw a few seats open. It was general seating, which was a little hectic. We had okay seats. We were to the side and behind some bleachers that were set up. Fortunately, we could still see the action.
I was surprised how many fouls there were. There were even two technical against Campbell. I have no idea what for, but you know how the Baptists are. One State player did pull down a Campbell player. It was pretty funny. It seemed like the referees were calling everything. The game came down to free throws. Most of the game the Camels and the Wolfpack were trading shots. State's offense was off the first half. Campbell could score when they had a chance. So the game was tied going into half time. One of my favorite quotes was from an exasperated State fan, "Great, we are winning."
The second half Campbell lost their shooting momentum and went cold. State hit their free throws and was able to open a lead. The Camels did hang on, but lost by six. The game was close until the last five minutes. I think a lot of State fans respected Campbell, after knowing State won of course. On the ride back home, Wendy and I heard the State commentators talking how well Campbell did. They even said Campbell has some of the top scorers in their division. Wow.
It is amazing to see the types of people at the games. You definitely feel the fans presence. Wendy got into the game pretty well. She let out some loud cheers for the Camels. Maybe sometime we will make it to a Campbell home game.
I saw this elderly woman navigating the aisles, barely. She was holding popcorn in one hand and the rail with other. I thought she would fall over any minute. She was at a slow pace the whole way and then disappeared. A few minutes later she came walking by again. I wondered what she was up to.
The game was pretty fun. I can see why people attend them. Those are some tickets that it is nice to get.
