In all honesty this should have had a better title

Dear parents, parents to be, wannabe parents, did not even cross my mind parents,

I have to say that Sharon, the baby we met this weekend, was a good baby. She would fuss just a little bit, but never too much. Then she would go right back to smiling or sleeping. I have seen a few babies that do not fuss too much. I know it is rare thing. Every baby has moments of fussyness where the parent thinks she will lose her mind.

I will be the first to admit I know nothing about babies. I am getting to that stage in life where I have more contact with them. Friends and other family members have them in their lives. Of course in a couple of months I will have a baby of my own.

So needless to say I am a fumble fingers when it comes to babies. I have never dropped one. It has been two. Just kidding. However, I feel I have no idea how to hold a baby. I know I do not do it exactly right. The parents must be thinking how is that IDIOT! holding my child. Hopefully it is a skill developed by practice. I know I will have a lot of practice. Holding a baby and being called IDIOT!

As we were sitting around the house yesterday Caroline and Paul were mainly holding Sharon. Of course it is their baby. Wendy held her some. Then she passed Sharon to me. I fumbled a few seconds, but then mainly rested Sharon against me. I have no idea if she was comfortable or not. Fortunately she did not cry or fuss. One time later in the evening while I was holding her she did start to fuss. I handed her back to the mom. Mothers are pretty good about making excuses for their babies. "She is getting sleepy."

Sharon was a good baby. She would sit there. Smile occasionally. Then nap. Basically that is what I do all the time. I think Sharon fussed less than I do.

I know that all babies are different, as well they should. I hope that Wendy and I are blessed with a good baby. I hope that Joy is even tempered and well behaved. So her parents can be too. Just kidding. I do hope we are blessed with a healthy and happy baby. I do not want to learn about parenting the hard way. There will be enough challenges.

So to all you baby mommas and daddies out there...Thank you for taking care of us when we are happy and fussy.
